Research Writing / Oral Histories--Notes on Today's classes

Students are all hard at work on their second oral history project.  Everyone worked independantly today; folks seem to all be at different stages.  Here are some things to keep in mind:

  • Your interview needs to be scheduled by now.
  • You would be wise to conduct your interview by the end of this week.
  • You should write a 1/2-1 page-long introduction to your interview.  Refer to the examples that I showed you from the Writers at Work books.
  • Decide on the format of your final product (Studs Terkel, new journalism, standard Q&A).
If you have already conducted your interview, remember that now comes the more difficult and time-consuming part of the project--transcribing and editing.

First drafts due on January 24th!
